You may have noticed that our offerings on this page are rather sparse. We're sorry not to be able to have the usual full complement of coffees here for you to enjoy.
The global coffee market has been doing historic things. The price of coffee rose more than 75% in 2024. It is up more than 26% just since January 2, 2025!
Those prices are for what's known as "commodity coffee." That's the stuff you see in cans in the grocery store, the stuff the main purpose of which is just to get you some caffeine, flavor be damned. For the higher quality origin coffees we take pride in selling, there are additional charges known as "differentials." Those extra charges are for the size of bean, year of harvest, distance from the market, and amount of coffee available, among other considerations. Pretty quickly you can get to adding $2 to $4 or more per pound of green coffee, on top of already-historic prices for basic coffee.
And all this is assuming that the coffee is even available in the marketplace. Some producing nations are having (or reporting that they have) bad harvests due to weather. Or supply chain problems in getting beans to port. Or trouble sourcing shipping containers. Or a hard time finding ships.
Beyond that, our coffee brokers report that some producing nations are simply not fulfilling supply contracts. They seem to be gambling that their coffee might be worth more next week than it is today, so they decide not to sell or ship it now. So far that has been a reasonable decision on their part. But it means that the supply of high-quality beans is low, even at much higher prices.
We want to offer you the coffees that you want. We are closely monitoring the situation and will bring back those coffees we can when we can.
